Went there today, which was a public holiday but it was still open even though the cafe wasn’t. All we wanted to know was whether any tours were happening today. The girl at the counter was on the phone so we walked around the shop. Once off the phone she proceeded to ignore us and kept her eyes fixed on her phone while texting. My sister walked up to the counter and still no acknowledgement. Clearly she didn’t want to be there or represent the Company in a positive light. Not even a hello or welcome, or ‘can I help you’. We’ve been travelling the South Island for the last 3 weeks and making sure we spend money at NZ businesses. But this was just sub standard. They lost our business and any recommendations to friends.

Wow! I thought this was just about the stars. A mix of Maori culture and how it intertwined with modern science and astrology. Cruz the guide had so much Mana. Loved it- have done many touristy things and this was by far the most informative. Did this with my 10yo but am sure my nearly 9yo would have loved it too. Top marks team!

We booked the indoor tour which is during the day and it was amazing. Our guide was a local with lots of knowledge about astrology that he combined with fascinating inputs of the maori culture. We definitely recommend visiting the dark sky project and regret that we didn't take the time to stay for the outdoor experience at night.

I had a great time, got it as a gift voucher so there was no way it would feel as a rip-off as previous comment. Tour started at 1am, we indeed didn’t get the chance to take pictures but rather gaver our DSLR to one of the crew who did the job with a tracking device. The talk was extremely interesting and the guide really good. We got to look at the jewel box, Eta Carinae, Jupiter, the Tarantula nebulae, 47 Tucanae but missed the Sombrero galaxy. Then they showed us a few of the constellations. Now you know what to expect ?

Attention Rip off !!!!! We booked the observatory tour for 175$pp. They said we can take photos with our own camera. But they where speaking all the time. We just looked three times through a telescope and that was it. Never in life worth 175$ !!! When I asked to take some photos the 2h where almost over and I could just take two pictures in a hurry. Don’t go there !
