It's like walking in an enchanted forest. Very beautiful hike with a turquoise blue river, large hanging bridges and snowy mountains! It's physical with a lot of walking in pebbles and river crossings. The hotpools are nice with a beautiful view to finish this day of walking (5 to 6 hours for 18km). Avoid doing this hike in the rain. Very nice hut with access to the river, we slept in a tent but took advantage of the amenities without problems. Our reservations have been verified.
20km one way track according to GPS. Walk trough beautiful bush, endless though. The pools did not meet our expectation. It was kind of flat (as named :D ) but lot of mud to spend there long time. Anyway if you have lot of time it is a nice walk. We started afternoon so we arrived at dark and met lots of local possums at path :) You only need to count two full days. Ranger was very friendly and nice.
If you want to walk through rain forest for 6 hours, this is the track for you. Completely boring, really. On top of that, the hut does NOT have a unique/stunning location. Yes, the hotpools are nice, but walking 18kms to get there does not make any sense at all. Would not recommend, you should rather do the Liverpool Hut (Mt Aspiring) or Mueller Hut instead.
Good walk ! We are not experienced walkers, did the way to the pool in approx 5h30 hours . The pools are great after diner, with the stars :) :) I highly don't recommend this walk if raining!! As you pass rivers and a lot of stones which would get very slippery and muddy parts . Water at the hut is drinkable ! + flushable and very clean toilets! Big kitchen area (no gas or electricity ) + bring spray because in afternoon A LOT of sandflies at the pools, and a bit of mosquitos the evening Way back was long and we are shattered but great walk :) do it !!!
Hiking OK (between 5:30 and 6 h or less).Great hut well done. There is water (it is advisable to treat it) but neither gas nor electricity.
5 to 7 hours walk, the ride is nice but it will not be at all if you do it in the rain because so many passages of rivers and lots of mud! Hot pools are top
18km return. Lodge was very clean and big. Was booked out. They check if you booked. The walk is very long and challenging but the view and the walk are beautiful. Needed 8 hours to get there and 6 hours back. The about 5 pools were very warm, between 38 and 50 degrees warm. You can see the snow on the mountains while you're in the pool.
Walking will take you between 4am and 7am but the reward of a hot bath with views of the mountains and the starry night is worth the effort! Do not forget to book before
Totally boring walk. It feels like you don't move forward in the first part of the forest. After that you continue on stones along the riverbank... no fun (sandflies!) If your shoes are still dry after crossing the first river, you'll have wet feet latest after the first 2km ;)
How do you get to the start of the track, want to do it ,but don't know how to get there (4WD needed????)
