We had a perfect night here. Quiet and site didn’t fill up completely.

Under new management, have stayed here a few years ago. Still the same, getting tired. Clean hot showers, coin operated $2 for 3 mins. For price I would have liked showers free. Had pick of any unpowered sites. Kiwi scratching around within 10m of the van.

Nice and quiet. Amazing caves right there. Only three other vans there, so plenty of space. Toilets Ok, outside shower broken. Didn’t notice sandflies, but amazing birdsong.

Great spot. There are around 6 spots around the park. The area is very clean and we had no major issues with noise overnight. There are a toilet blocks but no sure if open overnight, very clean though.

After attempting to stop along the Haast pass doc camp sites and getting smashed by sand flies we high tailed it here and we're relieved to find this one. No sand flies, massive kitchen and lounge with fire place, no crowds (only the white bait fishing oldies) and the place is immaculately clean 60nz for powered site (Oct)

Stunning sunrise. Great spot. As previous reviews, self contained toilet necessary.

New shower/toilet block just finished. Nice and new. Needs payWave to operate shower. Don’t press the button under the nozzle, it activates the second jet and is cold water, eventually turned off, not sure how, but shower temp was fixed temp. As it was new, couldn’t be better. Plenty of rabbits to keep us and 1 other van company. Instructions say you must pay online 10days before booking. But we just did it when we arrived. Camp office was closed and nobody around.

A big parkinglot with clean toilets and warm water for cleaning the dishes. You have to pay to use the stove, shower and laundry. Lot of parking space. A bit noisy at night when the train moves by. There is also a very charming café with great coffe next to the campsite.

We came here in our camper van (family of four - two adults and two children). It’s a nice place. You can see the mountains and the ocean from there. It cost 30 $ for power. The showers are free if you want to shower cold. Warm showers are 4$ and the water runs for about 6 minutes. It’s enough time to wash long hair twice. The food at the restaurant is really good! There are toys for the little ones to play with and a play house also.

Nice site with friendly locals staying as well. Toilets in good condition and the pub nearby will let you sit and charge you gadgets if you're running low on battery. 10 sites total, although more can fit if people park sensibly. Several vans outside the designated area and didn't seem to have an issue.

Totally fine site, flushing toilets and beautiful sunset. A couple of cars sped into the site and stayed for an hour or so at around midnight, but didn't bother campers. I felt relatively safe as a solo female traveller, but perhaps wouldn't have if there weren't other campers there too.

Great spot, probably around 25-30 spaces, public toilets and showers for a small fee. Public library next to the car park with free wifi. Laundromat, opshop and several takeout option in town.

Amazing site with plenty of space, views over the ocean and beautiful sunrises. Just don't go too far into site if you're in a small van/2wd. Had two vans needing to be pushed out of the sand in the two nights I was there. Don't let it put you off as its easily the best site on Northland, but stick to the grass and avoid any big holes in the ground!

ongoing cars all night and people pulling right next to my car even though the whole car park was free. I was completly alone as a solo-female traveller and had no phone signal. Had to change to a different freedom camping at 2 in the night, because a car drove multpile circels around the car park, stopped in every round right behind my car and honked. Worst campground experience and didn‘t feel safe!

Great spot if it doesn’t rain! -24/7 open toilets (the whole floor was filled with water. Even the toilets were wet) -a lot of parking space -NO drinking water -quiet -no problems with locals -good spark signal
Free Campsites•Waikato

Overall really nice and we recommend! -24/7 open and clean toilets you can use for free -24/7 open and clean showers (you have to pay 4$ ONLY for the showers) -NO water/ dump station -a LOT of parking space -4 bars spark signal -at 3pm or so, a man wandered around other camper vans. Seems like he was looking if anyone was inside which seemed very sketchy. He did leave though and didn’t come back.

The spot is amazing, no many people! The toilet are closed because some people have been using them as a dumping ground. Please be self-sufficient.
Freie Campingplätze•Mackenzie

Pretty bad overall. There's a lot of free space, but a lot of flies too. The toilets nearby were all locked at 9pm. Also, some weird guy offered to sell me coke on the playing field nearby. Not a fan.
