It was very interesting and the guided tour was definitely worth it!
Wow this was such a great experience! Since two days they are operating again after covid and there are some new rules, but it was still definitely worth a visit! We did the guided tour and we had the luck to have the best guide we could've wished for: Waimaria. She lives in the Maori village herself and knows so many details, so many funny but also painful stories and she definitely took her time to show us as much as possible. On forehand we were afraid it would be a very touristic tour but it didn't feel like that at all because Waimaaria was very genuine and she told us Whakarewarewa has been a guiding village for centuries so actually the village almost doesn't know otherwise. At the moment they are not doing the cultural performance (only pre-booked for groups off 20 or more) which is unfotunate but we still enjoyed our visit. We can not recommend this enough. Thank you Waimaaria!
An interesting place to understand Maori culture and life!
More than happy to have visited this site. The ticket includes entry into the village with walks on the geothermal site, a guided tour and a show (look at horraires before coming, it would be a shame to miss that). The guided tour was very interesting and authentic because we are presented the way of life past but also current in the village.
Really happy with the experience, super friendly staff. I do recommend booking(a few days in advance) via bookme for a bit of a discount(it is the only maori experience on there), but make sure to book in a timeframe where you can take a guided tour and see the performance. A guided tour just gives you so much more information and insight into the maori culture, I had a great fun and knowledgeable tourguide named 'T'. He told us that the Maori cultural centre next to this park was bought up by the government and therefore is more promoted; even more reason to book a tour here for a great price(it was eventually only 20 euro's so definitely well worth the experience).
Love that whole experience here. Not sure why the iSite or touristic center didn’t promote this village too much. This place is cheap and you get the whole experience from the culture tour, haka show & hangi meals. Staffs were knowledgeable & friendly.
This place is much cheaper than Te Puia. Visit of Maori vilage, Pohutu geyser and Maori show are very nice despite the price. I recommend to go!
If you only have one Maori and thermal site to visit choose this one ... We wander through a real Maori village where hot springs and other geysers are legion ... The dance show with the famous Aka is the highlight of the visit ... which is really worth the price ..
We enjoyed the performance and the walk through the town. We did not join a tour but it as worth the money. The Gysires are amazing!
Was worth it!
