Arrive in Alice Springs (Mparntwe) and ease into the rhythm of the outback. Begin your journey by meeting some of the region’s most iconic locals at The Kangaroo Sanctuary, or explore the rich stories of the Arrernte people at Araluen Cultural Precinct, where local artists share culture through contemporary works.

🎈 Day 2: Alice Springs → West MacDonnell Ranges – Picture-perfect pit stops

Start the day floating above the desert with Outback Ballooning, watching sunrise paint the landscape in soft reds and golds — an unforgettable way to begin your Red Centre road trip. Back on the ground, drive into Tjoritja / West MacDonnell Ranges, a collection of postcard-worthy stops just outside town. Cool off with a swim at Ellery Creek Big Hole, then explore the towering rock walls and permanent waterholes of Ormiston Gorge.

Distance: ~330km
Head south-west toward Watarrka National Park, where the landscape opens into vast desert plains and ancient sandstone formations. Most travellers follow the Mereenie Loop Road (permit and 4WD required) for the most scenic route. As night falls, experience Light Towers at Discovery Resorts – Kings Canyon, where 200 illuminated structures glow softly against the desert floor, creating a striking after-dark moment in canyon country.

🚴 Day 6: Uluṟu & Kata Tjuṯa – Move, walk, wonder

Later, travel to Kata Tjuṯa (the Olgas) and take on the breathtaking Valley of the Winds Walk, weaving between towering domes shaped over millions of years.
