Great views even of Kaikoura mountains 200km from Stony peak, a nice hiking hour loop, not that steep.
Maybe place for 10 cars? At the parking spot there are folders with a map. Problem is they don’t show km or hours. We went first to the visitors center and took the western track. With the map and Earth Pocket we walked about two hours. Small path, native bush. Real nice. Not easy because it can be sometimes slippery. Lot of streams and crossings. If you want you can walk for 4 hours.
Nice spot! Beautiful nature and great hikes. We did a short hike for 1 1/2 hours.
Awesome place. Met the guy that runs the reserve. He was mowing the track with an old hand mower. Amazing kiwi. I would recommend this walk just plan well and take a map
Amazing place, this is a true hidden gem
A very nice walk, we were to Stony Bay Peak (3-4h AR) the view is beautiful. Very nice view of the bay too. To do!
We had a very. Good time, very beautiful walks in the forest very well marked and arranged. That day the owner was not there. We loved it ?
This place is a rare find. Hugh manages the reserve for species conservation & is a joy to meet. Hand made signs & interpretation with visitors info. Various tramping tracks (vary in length) with gorgeous views of surrounding Banks P, bush ALIVE with native birds. You can stay at the reserve in the visitors lodge which is particularly special if you like falling off grid (call ahead to check availability). Almost don’t want to tell people about this place to keep the magic..
