Beautiful hut, well maintained. Can’t recommend this route highly enough.
This is a “route” rather than a track (ie poles to follow but path not marked). Some tricky parts and a very steep climb, but absolutely stunning views and do-able in a day if you’re reasonably fit. Wouldn’t be safe in bad weather so check in at the DOC office before you start.
Great hike with a great view. However, there are a lot of stairs right from the start. You need to be in good condition. But the climb is definitely worth it! We were about 5-6 hours with return.
Best hike we've done in NZ so far! The steep stairs in the first half are no joke and the second half consists of a rocky ascent but it's totally worth it, the views are breathtaking. You can go on to climb Mt Ollivier which is located behind the hut (can't miss it) but it's a climb over loose rocks so only go if it's within your capabilities.
We started at 6 am and we were the only ones on the way. The stairs are no joke and the second part is quite steep and rocky, but sooo worth it. The view on top is breathtaking
Nice hike but the ascent and descent is quite difficult especially when you don't have a good cardio! 800 m vertical drop. 6:30 am GO - return all the same. The view overlooks glaciers that cannot be seen elsewhere
One of the best hikes (climbs!) we have done in NZ! This is tough 1HR stairs then a 1.5HR of steep Rocky terrain. Spectacular view points including a 360 view of snowy mountain tops and MT Cook from the hut. Water refill available from the Muller Hut.
Stunning! One of the more amazing tracks that we have walked in our visit to this country, simply a must do!. It took 4,5 h return to us. If you go in this days, consider that when you cross Sealy Tarn track, will be totally snowy, just go prepared and enjoy the view ❤️
Have only done the first part, was nice but exhausting. Very, very, very, very much many steps. Nice view, but not outstanding. Good alternative when Hooker Valley is closed.
I did it on a sunny day. Worth track ever in NZ, you can see better stuff on the milford sound on easier tracks. But totally worse it if you sleep in the mullet hut. I took 6h go and back, I was tired and in pain on my knees for few days. I'm fit and used to walk a lot. The path is boring, you just climb stairs for 1h30, than you literally climb rocks for 1h30 again. You can see the glacier from closer on the top and some others mountains, but it's not incredible. Just a bunch of rocks. If you want to tell people you did it and take a selfie on the top to show your friends your incredible life on Instagram, than that is your walk. Or just stop after the stairs if you still want to do it. Crowded, specially on the first part.
