We did it today so it’s definitely open - there’s a sign at the parking pay station that says how close the track goes to the glacier today (it’s updated by DOC). The trail was blocked 3000m from the glacier but there are still beautiful views and it’s well worth the walk.

This walk is closed now since 2019 due to flooding. You can only do the Forest Walk but not get any closer to the Glacier. I recommend to check the location of the view point at the DOC since they can move it (depending on the weather conditions) every day.
