Quite wet and muddy after rain but worth it. Went just from Ocean beach to summit for stunning sunset view and on the way back saw kiwibirds 3-4 times right on the track between lighthouse and camp.

Good hike! You need to be fit, there are quite few steps. 1hr 20 up and 40 min down from the lookout. Amazing views. Go for it

We hiked from Urquharts Bay to Peach Cove Carpark in about 4 hours. It was a steep climb up Mt Lion, mainly on steps, but the Te Whara Track is wonderful; beautiful bush and birds and plenty of great viewpoints along the way. Good lunch stop with views on Mt Lion Summit. We parked our camper at Peach Cove Carpark and used a shuttle pickup to Urquharts Bay Carpark for $10 each.

Merry Christmas! Ho ho ho! Decided to release our inner Mowgli and walked up to the Radar Station and summit in flip flops and Birkenstocks. Needless to say the Havianas struggled on the downhill, so slung them on my shoulder and went full caveman. The rain and wind added to the fun, testament to how beautiful this hike really is that we still came away full of joy.

Great walk but a couple suggestions. It took us 3.75 hours from Urquharts to Ocean Beach including lunch at the radar station. It was very foggy up top, but even so, I think the best views are going INTO Ocean Beach. 90% of the hike after the first peak from Ocean Beach is within a jungle with no view. My recommendation is either 1) Start at OB, hike to the radar station and the peak, then return, or 2) Start at Peach Carpark and go to Ocean Beach and hitchhike back. In either case, drive to Urquharts afterward and do the small loop to Busby Head and Smugglers. The walk across Mt. Lion was good if you want to challenge yourself, but not that rewarding in views or atmosphere.

It took us 5.5 hours to walk from Ocean Beach to Urquharts Bay. We are of good walking fitness but not used to hill walking. The track was steep and slippery in areas on the Ocean Beach side from recent rains but there are steps in particularly dodgy areas. It was a challenging but enjoyable hike going through native bush. Had lots of close encounters with Robins, Kereru, Fantails and Tomtits. Sadly cloud was hanging over the peaks so not so stunning views for us. We didn't go down to Peach Cove, but a swim at Smugglers is a nice way to end if the wind isn't roaring in from the Pacific!

Beautiful area. Hiking a little difficult for me this day. Good shoes oblige! a little disappointed because to arrive at the peak of the summit a very steep passage (climbing) to do. I did not feel very safe ... I feel like I did it all for nothing. The infrastructures are always top but the lack of at least one rope!

Very rewarding views (that involve a bit of climbing) after a steep walk uphill. 100% worth it. We only walked as far as Bream Head viewpoint from Ocean Beach car park, the path continues further to the hut and then Urquharts Bay.

We started at the ocean beach parking lot and did the first part of the hike. It goes in about 90 minutes about 400 meters uphill. In bright sunshine and just under 25 degrees that was quite exhausting. But it is worthwhile in any case. We turned back in front of the Mt Lion so the tour will not be too long. Recommended!

Very beautiful hike many steps to go up and down if you go to the end but very beautiful landscape, plan a full half day if you want to make a round trip
