Day 1: Auckland to Hamilton via Raglan

Surf beaches and Māori culture

Leave Auckland and head south through rolling countryside and coastal roads to the laid-back surf town of Raglan (Whāingaroa). But before you do, grab breakfast at Richoux Patisserie, Bestie Cafe, or Cornwall Park Bistro.

If you're leaving later in the day, for lunch or takeaway snacks, locals also love Eden Noodles Cafe, Fatima's Ponsonby, and Giapo.

Day 2: Hamilton to Rotorua

Geothermal activity and Māori culture

Travel into geothermal country as the landscape begins to steam and bubble.

Day 3: Rotorua to Taupō

Continue south through volcanic landscapes and forested valleys toward Lake Taupō.

Orakei Korako Geothermal Park and Cave

Stop at Orakei Korako Cave & Geothermal Park, a hidden geothermal valley accessed by boat.

Day 4: Taupō to Napier
