The camp ground is open and fine, there is a gate now, open the gate and find a spot please keep the gate closed
The campground is closed, we could not access it. There is another paying camp (18$/adult) 20km further with shower, toilets, spa...
Best camp spot ever! Prepare to be super creeped out of course, no facilities. The sky is amazing, position yourself with windbreak (car) to the west and youl have a wind break if you’re camping :)
Dating from 1888, Curdimurka Railway Siding is the last remaining station yard still intact on the Old Ghan Railway. The station building contains three separate areas, each with three rooms best described as a lounge or dining room and two bedrooms. It appears that you are able to sleep inside the building and some people have even lit fires in the fire places. The station is quiet and provides shelter from the strong winds as they whistle over the outback. There is a resident flock of Galah's which are trying to destroy the window frames and there are also many nesting swallows in each room. There is a memorial to John McDouall Stuart as you come into the siding. The building is visible from the road.
So quiet and nice... The abandoned house is creepy at night and there are tons of annoying flies but it’s a very nice place to stay though there is no toilet. We were the only car there and felt like we’re the only people in the world because there was literally no one anywhere ? We slept outside under the beautiful sky and we saw nice sunset and sunrise ? unfortunately the road to lake Eyre north was closed (dec-march) so its only possible to access lake Eyre south during this time. Great overnight rest area. Quite spacious. Beautiful sunsets. No water or amenities.
