Beautiful, quick and rewarding! Just big comfortable steps without ice even when icy crust everywhere else in the valley didn't even need the microspikes. Relax by the frozen tarns on benches in the sun and quiet snow high above the village and valley.
The many steps are exhausting, but the view in the end is absolutely worth it!
Managed to do this in 45mins return. Tarns not as red as expected but lovely views of the valley from up there! @the. Wandering. Viking
According to our count, there are 1300 steps. Significantly narrower and steeper than the Hooker Valley track, but few tourists relax here! We needed 1 hour up, half hour photos / break, 30 minutes down. I would prefer the Hooker Valley.
Amazing view on a day where the sky is blue. We did it in 59 min. Almost no shade so bring a cap and a lot of water!
2h round trip with a lot of breaks. You have to be in shape, hiking only on stairs. Very pleasant. Make sure the sky is clear.
Took us an hour and ten minutes from the parking lot. Definitely a work out, bring enough water.
Beautiful! Not as crowded as the tracks closer to Mt Cook, I met two people on the whole way up and no one on the way down. It’s super quiet and the view into the valley is nice. Had to stay a while on the top to enjoy the environment. Otherwise doable in two hours. Recommended!
Lots of steps, but very doable. The tarns or 'ponds' are a bit meh, but the view would be stunning on a clear day. It was raining and cloudy when we did it and the effort wasn't quite worth the reward.
Nice hike but be careful there are lots of steps to get to the top
