Great for the inter Island ferries or access to the Queen Charlotte Track. Facilities clean and functional but outdated. Look out for the goats on the cliff above the railway line.
Surprised by the negative comments. The welcome was friendly and the sites are a good size. Amenities are really good: nice hot showers, a large kitchen, and everything is clean. Very quiet at night. Honestly, a perfect place to stay in Picton.
The owner was very rude. When we wanted to check in, he told me that we still had to pay. As we already put our payment details in while booking I was skeptical and said that I wanted to check my banking app first if nothing had been charged (because all the other times I had booked a campsite it was that way). He then responded that we could drive to the next campsite if I didn’t trust him and just walked out of the room. Even though there was nothing charged I found his behavior very rude.
Excellent service. I made a last-minute booking because I was crossing by ferry at the last minute, and they reserved a very comfortable and warm cabin for me. When I called to explain that we would be arriving on the last-minute ferry, they said it was very understandable and not to worry, that they would leave the keys next to the main office. It's also worth mentioning that the showers had wonderfully hot water, the laundry service was spectacular with a washer and dryer, and the kitchen was fully equipped.
Good facilities, hot shower and very close to the port.
Infrastructure is bit old otherwise it was nice place to stay. Wifi was not free. Bathrooms, kitchen, fresh water to refill, waste dump, power site all facilities were good. Beautiful morning view, we enjoyed when train was crossing over.
As already mentioned, the infrastructure is a bit outdated, but everything was very clean. Showers were freshly painted and hot. The kitchen and appliances were clean. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We stayed here for two nights for hiking. At €20 per night, it was perfectly fine. Many campsites in Germany cost more.
My booking was confirmed, a cabin with shower/toilet/TV/towels/hairdryer. Upon arrival, they said there was a software error, only basic cabins were available, and the software problems couldn't be fixed. This seems to be a business model: a cheap offer, and upon arrival, you're offered a cabin with nothing. The cabin stank terribly of stale cigarette smoke, and the communal restroom also stank of cigarettes. Better not! No good stay!!! Jeep away!!!!!!
Good place to spend a night but no more, slightly outdated infrastructure and no free wifi!
our ferry from the north island arrived 11:45pm and we called in the afternoon if we could checkin that late, they said just to rock up and pick a spot&pay the next morning - which worked out perfectly fine for us and we were thankfull for an easy 5minute ride from the ferry. you can hear the train in the early morning and the showers/kitchen/bathroom are quite run down, but okay for a onenight/ferry solution:)
