The free walk is useless on 1 hour you can see for 20min the mine
Pretty cool area.
Not worth it
It's closed..
Honestly please do not do the $36 trip to the mines. It says ‘get inside the fence’ and that is all you get. Sooooo disheartened by it. This tour you get ppe hard hat and a high vis. Really you should get sun cream and a bottle of water. It’s not worth your time let alone the money
If you take the goldmine tour - note that it will not go into an actual mine or historic tunnel. First you drive to the pit (which you can also see for free), and then to look at the mining operation from outside. On a hot day take a water bottle, sunglasses and sun cream! Not worth 36$ pp in my opinion
Interesting walk around the pump house, cool to do if you have walked the trails in the Karangahake gorge.
The pit is really impressive! The rest of the walk is nothing special, but nice if you want a short (~1hr) afternoon stroll. Most of the information signs seem to have been removed, which I found a pity
Not much to see. Go to the lookout and the plumhouse and do not bother going all the way around
OK for something to do in the area. You can't see some of the mine now because of a landslide and they seem to have removed some of the information boards.
