GlowWorm Tour: Very informative and interesting. Not as cold as expected. In some places you have to walk or climb while bent over, but it's doable. Always time for photos and at the end there were lots of great fireflies. To the cave with a hike through the bush and a short train ride. Recommended!
This was an unbelievable experience. We were originally only going to do the train ride (how tame), but then decided to do the underground glow-worm cave tour. We were the only two (along with another couple doing the underground rafting) and our guide (Andrea) was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The stalactite and stalagmite formations are absolutely beautiful and being able to see them all in their natural state was incredible. Yes there are some spots where you have to bend over to get through, but no crawling required. So if we can manage it at ages 68 & 70, so can you. Was also warmer than we expected. Probably colder outside than inside on the day we were there. Worth every $.
Heaps of fun. 100% recommend
Worth every penny, and I mean it! This tour was fantastic, from the informative drive, to the unique train and the underworld itself. You have to appreciate only people who take this tour (or have a doctorate in Geology) are allowed in this cave so the natural wonders are on full show. My partner and I both said the glow worms in this cave out Te Anau to absolute shame. 100% recommend, even if you are on a budget.
Great tour, we were the only 2 on it so got to see a few extra bits. Very knowledgeable guide, clearly enthusiastic about the caves. The glow worm part in the tubes on the river was quite relaxing and outside of the caves the paddle back downstream had some lovely views. Cafe was closed so can’t speak to the food
Our guide, Will, did a great job showing us the metro cave. Very professional and well run operation.
