Nice walk but alot of cows and young calves, I turned back because the cows were getting aggressive.
I love this walk ! Very steep at the end but I loved the views and animals, I don’t understand how anyone could find it boring, on a sunny day it’s amazing, the view at the top is great, took us 5h including 1h of breaks
We loved this ride. 2 or 3 climbs a bit steep, but very beautiful landscapes (which, for some may be a bit repetitive). Is done in about 4 hours back :)!
Really nice 4-5 hour return walk, little steep at the start and again towards the summit. Great 360 views at the top. Even met some friendly farm dogs on the way down? we walked from the free campsite at diamond harbour and it was about 18km return.
I did not like it very much. Do not understand the good reviews. It's nice, but not more. The view is not very nice and you walk 100% over farmland. If you want to run the track, put on waterproof shoes that can get dirty. The summit walkway a bit further southeast is much nicer!
This is the legday you feared. But with the views it is Totally worth it. Good hike for those who are beginners (like us). Took us 4 hours return but the signs says 6,5h return.
Short walk to the summit with a great view of Akaroa 40 minutes return
Very nice walk, we did it in 4h30 (we were quite slow). Amazing view on the top, you can see the other side of the peninsula. The best was on the way back when the sun goes down... Just awesome !!!
Wow! Stunning views and a night for free in the mt. Herbert shelter. Was a bit windy and i felt the little earthquake but finally worth it. When the sun goes down and christchurch went into a lightocean ... Incredible! do it but be careful of the cows! they looked at me very angry and started to attack me! happy to survive it! do i look like danger?! there are also 2 huts in the region. The one called packhorse hut is 1,5h from mt. Herbert summit and the other one (can't remember the name) is near the port levy saddle ca. 2h from mt. Herbert summit.
I did it, I started form the road pigeon bay-Port levy, shorter than the regular one, it was awesome one side of the summit was tidy and the other one was totally cloudy so 180 degrees view but stil worth it
