What a pleasant under 2hr loop from a picknicky gardeny carpark where birdsongs wake you up! Recommend to start with the steepest Scotts saddle track and whenever you feel return via Ridge and Opuke or Alder track. You can also go downhill to a sunny clearing by the Pudding stream before returning to car.
Great little walk I did a 1.5 hour loop. It wasn't very muddy the bird's here were the best I've ever heard. A.P
After 3 days of no rain, I did the Scotts Saddle Track with a bit of the Ski Field Road. The latter is really only recommended for experienced people. From the look out go left up. After half an hour, I turned around, because the track was close to the departure and with many small stones for me was too slippery. There are only stones and rocks left. Must be wonderful, if you dare the last hour. It's two hours to look out if you start behind the toilets. First it goes super relaxed through the forest and eventually come the slopes that do not stop. Heavy workout, but fun. For those who want to start the same steep, behind the barrier at the end of the beautiful place you go. View would have been wonderful. It was too early, the clouds were still too deep.
I would recommend the track only if it has not rained 2-3 days before !!! It is otherwise very muddy and slippery. There are places where it goes very steep and also many root paths. I wanted to go the big loop (6h) but fortunately after 45min reversed to then parts of the Ridge & Opuke track to make. That was enough for me then. In good weather, it is definitely a super day hike!
