Hey because of a Stone Slide the track is closed until the 15th january 2020.
Please, I lost my black gloves Direct Alpine aprox. 1km after Ball hut towards to Caroline hut. If someone finds them, please contact me on 02041849635. It was a present so they mean much to me. Beautiful hut. Just 3 beds, not 4. Very nice track along huge Tasman glacier.
Much more than two hours. I turned around after two hours when I saw that there were still a lot of big big stones not stable to cross. In addition, you walk on pebbles all along the way and after the hole the view remains almost the same all the time.
Closed due to flood damage
From the departure car park, it takes more than 2 hours to reach the hut. Some passages are a little scary. You have to cross an avalanche of pebbles. You arrive to the glacier. We stayed at 4 but there are only 3 beds. At 6am the Kea wake up and come on the roof of the hut and cries, so it is impossible to sleep after this hour. For more information and to book it is essential to go to the site i Mount Cook Village.
A little dangerous track since it go through an avalanche area, but the views are spectacular! We could actually hear the glacier breaking.
Not very known but a really nice hike! You can do it in one day but the hut is really fun. It is for three people (you can camp too) on a first come, first serve basis. The first stretch is about two hours on a 4WD road between hills, but the last short stretch is next to the glacier which you can hear moving and creaking. Incredible! Really cute hut with such nice views on the mountains and glacier. Go to DOC center in Mount Cook Village for more info as some avalanche risk (we heard them coming down at night further away, very impressive! A part of the track got swept away by an avalanche at the time we did it (beginning December) which was a bit of a scary crossing but very recommendable track!
Absolutely amazing. I spent the night here with 4 people. It’s actually a 3 person hut. But doable with 4. The walk is a very flat easy walk most of the time over an 4WD road, this road ends and then it’s a bit of climbing 20 min before you get to the hut. It’ll take about 2,5 hours including stops for pictures etc. I’d recommend telling the people at the info centre if you’re going for the night to make sure no one else is in the hut. Enjoy the scenery and please take your rubbish with you !!
