Driving along the Whanganui River is a nice 1 hour walk to get moving. It took us 30 minutes up, 20 minutes down. In total there were 220 vertical meters and 4.2 km to the lookout. The path is absolutely ok, it was dry and hot. Half of the way is in the forest, the other in the sun. Don't forget to apply cream in summer! At the top of the lookout is a small bench from which you can see the old river bed. It is not exceptional, but just nice!

The lady at the i site recomended this track. Not really worth it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. You just walk in the forest and it gets boring. The markings are also not well placed and some have fallen off. If younjust waatbto donthe best bit... Walk anti clock wise and just to Taupiri Trig. It is steep but the view is nice. The best part was the road (Whanganui river road). If you have a normal car worth the time.

Should have been called "atene bush line walk". Nice view at the beggining and at the end, nothing special in the track. Sign can be a little confusing at the picnic zone in the middle of the track (just go eastern from the table and not behind). Now i will go to buy some new knees after this terrible down hills.

Definitely not worth it. The track to the viewpoint takes 30-40 minutes, it just goes through high grass and bushland and you don’t see anything but forest from the viewpoint. Unfortunately disappointing.

We did the whole skyline track on the 20.03. Times are not correct. Full track needed 5h. Until the Outlook 33min. The track is nice to the Outlook, only until then. Rest is not worth it. The Skyline Track is more like a bushwalk than a skyline (at most in the last 30min.) The path is partially blocked or overgrown by fallen trees. But always find him by the good marks. Wear long pants, dry branches and fern scratch your legs. We do not recommend him to go unless you are a fan of "I hit me through the jungle and have no nice Outlooks".

We hiked the whole skyline track, lovely but it’s long!! Bring food and water. Took us 4.5 hours or so.

Near Parikino there are roadworks which require the road to be closed at certain hours. The works should finish on December 6. The road is open weekends and public holidays and during these hours on weekdays: 12pm-1pm, 3pm-4pm, 5:30pm-6:30pm, 9pm-9am.

Road closed 5 kms from Athene! Opening of the road from 15h .. Too late to go for a walk .. No sign indicating the work ..
