It is the test beach of Burt Munro "the fastest Indian in the world .. So for the biker it is mandatory as well as the museum in town

Amazing place that's for sure. If anybody is wondering - don't try to sleep there. Don't think anybody checks, especially in winter, but it's way to windy to have a calm night so better look for a safer place for wildcamping haha.

Since you really can work with any car it only it is quite uneven.

The road towards Oreti Beach leads straight onto the (firm) sand and you can drive all of the 26 kilometers - just like Burt Munro! Amazing experience and cool photo-op. Probably best at half to low tide. Be aware that most rental agreements don't allow driving on the beach.
