Amazing views! We did it in 1 hr up and on a clear day you see snowy taranaki!! intermediate fitness required and good shoes as can get muddy in parts

You can’t miss this walk! From Ruapuke Rd it took us 1 hr and 15 min only. The views are awesome! It’s not very hard to climb, it wasn’t super muddy, we were both wearing Vans and we did it easily. Enjoy!

Really nice hike! Definitely do with a more clear day. Muddy, so wear appropriate shoes. Don’t use the directions off of here.

We were looking forward to hiking this, but both car parks are accessed via unsealed roads and so we were unable to reach them in our rental vehicle. Just something to be aware of as the DOC only mentions it for one of the car parks!

5h round trip hike through the rainforest to contemplate a beautiful 360-degree view. Many passages require to grab the roots to keep balance, some paths are muddy, you need a good pair of shoes. A good moment !

Not very nice during bad weather. Unfortunately we could see nothing because of the clouds and it was very very slippery! Just something for good forecast!

Nice hike uphill. Good view over the bay once you are at the top of the hill. Muddy paths though, so sturdy shoes recommended. The Wairake track starts at the end of karioi road, off Ruapuke road and is well signposted throughout the whole track.

It’s more of a climb then a hike. Some parts have chains and there’s a steel ladder/steps. It was super muddy and slippery so be careful!

A very challenging walk indeed. I discovered on the way up that I may have asthma! We walked from the Ruapuke Road side which is much “easier” than the Whaanga Road side. It took us about 1 hour and 20mins to reach the summit and that was with multiple stops and very slow walking towards the end. The views were well worth it though, highly recommend doing it! There’s some ladders you have to climb up towards the end too but good fun and very rewarding.

A properly nice walk. Beware though it’s not an easy one. From the Te Toto gorge/ocean side it’s a pretty steep, definitely slippery in places so bring proper hiking shoes. Between the viewpoint and summit is mostly in the bush with some « windows » which can feel exposed. It took me 2hrs to get to the summit not stopping at the viewpoint. The way down can be less obviously but watch your step. Ah and those views! Hills, mountains & coasts a real feast for your eyes. Be sure to walk to the helipad to get the best view.
