Great walk! Highly recommended as soon as it is dark (>7 p.m.)!
A lovely stroll especially if you’re staying nearby. Even during the day it makes and nice break.
Went after sun set (930pm) lots of glow worms! Got a bit nervous walking in the pitch dark, but safe enough. Nice free glow worm walk.
This was great and so easily accessible. Had went immediately after sunset but had to wait for it to be even darker for the glow worms to come out. Keep walking to see more clusters of them on fallen trees.
Right at the beginning of the trail we saw some and went for a long time and the whole forest was lit up. Due to heavy rainfall we were alone and could enjoy the spectacle without flashlights and fotoblatters
Nice walk, lots of glow worms in a beautiful forest. Make the whole walk to see them all

The entrance is not directly at the mark. Just walk along the main road to the village exit. Then comes a sign with the caption. Pretty walk. The fireflies hide under fallen trees.
This was my favourite thing to do on our road trip around NZ. Yes bring a torch BUT !! There is no need to use it constantly, otherwise you won’t see the glow worms (dah!). Once your eyes adjust to the darkness the path lights up enough that a torch is not necessary at all. The point is; try not to ruin the experience for other people by shining a torch around the whole time.
Really really nice and easy walk with lots of glow worms to be seen. Don’t forget to look up in the sky, tonnes of stars too. Different view ?
