The view from up there is incredible! Worth it! However, it's a steep climb!!!! Be mentally prepared
Super nice winter hike! The last zig zag was too steep snow slope so had to cut the loop below through tussocks to Scott's track and get to the peak from there. Scotts track was good, almost without snow. Didn't use any equipment, better used hands to grab roots, stones and even snow. Comfortably doable, just pick some day after a few sunny ones to avoid ice coated stones and use only the Scotts track in winter to get to the peak and back.
If it’s summer, you (probably) won’t have snow to contend with, but check with DOC beforehand for weather and trail conditions! Not recommended in rain, wind, or low visibility. Extremely steep, exposed, and challenging all day hike. That being said, STUNNING. One of my favorite day hikes in NZ. Well worth it.
Beautiful view!!! But you need to experiences in tramping in the snow. There is just snow above the bush line. Crampons and iceaxe are essential. You can't hire them at Arthur's Pass. Just have a short talk to the visitor center about wether conditions before you go.
Steep climb up to an amazing view! Turned around before the top because of slippery snow, but we still had a panoramic view of snow-capped mountains before the summit. Walking up wasn’t too difficult, but walking down a slippery track is much harder! It’s always important to prioritize your safety. Check in with DOC about trail conditions before departing.
