A lovely spot surrounded by nature, far from the road. $10 per person. We made a fire because bad weather was approaching, and it was very sheltered. But yes, the sandflies are definitely there.
Off the main road 2-3 km down narrow gravel road. We had rainy day with overcast skies. Surface bumpy but large site. Too many sandflies and a drop loo. View obstructed by trees. Reasonable stop over on Christchurch to West Coast
Great to get away from the main road, a quiet and beautiful place. the trees that surround the camp site helped with the wind. Beautiful views if you go a few meters down to the river. Did not use the toilets. There were too many sandflies to sit outside, but okay to take a walk. 10 nzd per person via DOC online booking
Great little spot with gorgeous views. A few sandflies but disappeared after dark. Toilet was clean for what it is. Glad we found this little gem!
The road up there is amazing, beautiful views. With car or small campers itβs definitely doable. The campsite is nice and if you walk 2 min you be at the river, definitely one you will remember.
Great big site. A little dodgy for campervan access due to dirt road prior to bridge. Otherwise a nice flat site. But you do have to pay $
"Great location above the beach, powered sites are on the sea side of the road, non powered/camping on the hillside of road. Basic block built amenities building but nice and clean. Had a lot of rain and some slips locally so campground was a bit muddy and Buxton field at other end of bay next to play area was closed when we were there (end March)"
Nice campsite with a shelter. Toilets are clean. Lots of sandflies though.
Stayed one night on our way to Christchurch. Nice , very quiet place. 5 min drive from highway. A lot of sandflies. Nice shelter on campsite.
Beautiful peaceful spacious clearing with vast riverbed and bush. A fireplace in the shelter. Best of DoC simplicity. Walk to woodshed hill is steep through bush and extremely beautiful distant lookout from the peak
