Reaching the car park is almost impossible with a van but you can park 800m before on the side of the road (4-5 spot only if everyone is parked properly). The hike took me 6h to complete and from where I was park it was a total of 20km to reach the summit and come back. It is hard, like really hard. You’ll need a lot of water because it’s really steep all the way up with no flat ground. I’ve done 2h on a gravel road and then 1h30 through the forest and the snow. Hiking stick is a must !
Amazing view from the hut and the summit. Pretty hard track, quite steppy but worth it. Totally recommended. It took us 2.30 hs to go to the hut and then 1 more hour for the summit
3 hours up, 1.45 down. It was a absolute lovely view almost all the way to the top! It a hard hike but take your time and you will be fine. Windy on top so don't forget your jacket. Definitely recommend!
It is not as difficult as they say, I do not like hiking and I am also asthmatic and I was able to do it in just under 6 hours, round trip. For me it was essential to use walking sticks and a lot of water !!
Recommend it was such an incline very steep. The weather for us went from sun to snow so pack suitable clothes we were freezing. Also the Hut is pretty cool! 10/10 for hike & views not for the faint hearted!
Stunning view from the summit. For fast hikers doable in 2h to the top and 2h back down. Absolutely recommended
3h30 to the summit by taking breaks and 1h45 to descend. After the Hut, the path becomes prettier even if it remains mainly a Gravel road and we arrive above the clouds just before the summit! Magnificent !
The drive along gravel road in a sc van isn’t the bed, take it very slowly. Other than that I recommend, it is a very steep walk so be prepared but it was worth it
Couldn’t find the car park, even with following the signs. Followed a dodgy gravel road to no where. 4x4 vehicles only, otherwise you’ll get stuck
Amazing walk to Fyffe hut and then the three tops. But from Gables end to Kowhai hut the track is damaged by several avalanches. Almost no markings and plenty of river crossing. FOUND a bag with inflatable mat and some protein sticks on the way from Kowhai hut to Fyffe carpark 02108286348 if it is yours.
