This was one of the best places we stayed. Matt was so welcoming and so helpful. He built a fire for us and had the hot tub going as it is winter. Made us feel so comfortable and he even let us feed the animals even though it was past feeding time for them, wish we could have stayed longer. Such an amazing group of people and animals. Wouldn’t have wanted to stay anywhere else. 10/10 would highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a quiet, safe space to stay.
If you have ever wanted to experience the true kiwi homestead lifestyle, then relaxing at Matt & Kim's "Sanctuary Farm" will definately fulfil all your expectations. The drive up there is fantastic! As soon as you arrive and drive up the path to the camping spots, the friendly farm animals will pay you a warm and curious welcome. Matt and Kim are the most welcoming hosts I have ever met and they go out of their way to ensure their guests have a great time while you're there. Definately 10/10!!
Amazing slice of serene paradise! Chickens, goats, sheep, even the nosy friendly horse comes over to say hi. Matt is an awesome host, keen to share his knowledge and his Sanctuary with all travellers. Bring your bus, motorhome, tent or hire one of his hippy creations! The spa is waste oiled powered, again one of Matt's genius ideas. 100% we'll be back! Pet friendly but on leads due to the wandering 'stock'.
Amazing spot, everyone that has the chance, I would recommend you to go here. Unfortunately we could only stay one night because we had a ferry, but we wanted to stay longer! Really nice host and lots of animals that you can help feed every morning. Also good wifi and pools.
We had the best experience at Sanctuary Farm. Matt, Kim, and their family were incredibly kind and welcoming, and my husband and I spent our Christmas holiday there — originally planning four days and ending up staying a full week because we loved it so much. The property is beautiful, with adorable animals, a pool and spa, stunning mountain views, and unforgettable sunsets. The hosts are some of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet, and we’re so grateful we crossed paths with them.
The best Kiwi experience you’ll ever have! The owners, Matt and Kim, were absolutely amazing and made us feel so welcome. The property is stunning, with plenty of goats, sheep, and even a horse roaming around. There’s a spa and a pool to relax in, and the view from the hillside is nothing short of breathtaking. I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences we’ve had in New Zealand. If I could give it 20 out of 10 stars, I absolutely would!
A really good place to stay, peaceful and chill. Lovely couple that own this sanctuary and a lot of friendly animals. Don’t hesitate to stop there and I swear you will stay longer 😊
Wanderfool and quiet place , we planed to stay there one day and finually spent there three days! Matt and Kim are really kind people and close to nature and to their animals.
We stayed at Sanctuary Farm for two nights (we planned to stay for one night but ended up extending for two). The place is wonderful! Matt and Kim are such nice and warm people. They showed us around, welcomed us to their house and brought games for our toddler. They have farm animals to pet and nice trail to wonder around. The place is so peaceful—we had the best time and highly recommend coming here. Make sure you fill your water tank before coming because you will want to stay longer
We had a lovely time at Sanctuary farm. Hosts were super friendly, showed us around, introduced us to the animals. We went for a walk in their pastures on the surrounding hills, where their sheep, goats and horse graze. It was really nice to chat with Matt and Kim, hear their stories and discover New Zealand in a more personal way. If you’re looking for an authentic kiwi farm stay, this is the place!
