There are TWO tracks from this spot. On one side, the Haast Lookout Track is short & steep with great mountain views. The other side is a bridle track through a beautiful forest with mediocre views. Keep going on the bridle track for 1.75 miles to a spectacular swing bridge.

Okay, but not breath taking. The view that is. The path on the other hand does take some breath, not too much though. Do it for the exercise, not the view (which would be exceptional in other parts of the world but has lots of competition around here).

Comment before is just absolute nonsense... Yes to the top if you are fit it takes you with a bit a faster step ca 10min. But you are in ALL directions surrounded by mountains - no way you could see the tasman see or the lake! Believe it.... We were there with blue sky and no clouds! Cheers

20 min return walk no more for normal person, really easy, in good weather you can see Tasman sea and Wanaka lake

Flipping Nora, the other commentars seem to think there's a deal to make with nature, a bit of exercise and voila, the sun pops out. The walk is a steady uphill grind to a beautiful view at the top, has 0.5% of the foot traffic and it's forests are wonderful. 7/7.

Pro: - nice path through the forest - despite stones in sneakers feasible - there is a bench at the top - in 10 minutes up when you're fit Contra: - a bit steep - view is not very exceptional
