Something special! Probably most efficient way is to start with the upper lookout then take the 'closed' track down to the dry riverbed and walk up as far as you feel comfortable and safe and back along the stream watching the amazing dozens of sculptures changing every step you make!
We did a loop, going up to the ridge lookout and then down to the riverbed. In this connection section, a bad landslide happened, and we had lots of respect going down there (wouldn't recommend as long as the hike is closed). We also preferred the view in the midst of the pinnacles on the riverbed, so if you only want to do one way, I would recommend going straight through the riverbed and skip the ridge lookout. It took us 2h with stops to take pictures.
Currently closed due to large landslip - no signs in car park, only an alert on DOC website. Unless you like getting your feet wet. The river was too high today. We tried to approach using the ridgeline loop track from the road end, but it is awful and we turned around halfway, don't bother.
The beginning (and end) of the routes is not marked. Be careful on rainy days
So worth it. Did the steam one so you can stand in the inside of the pinnicals so preety. Be prepared with shorts and boots that will get soaked as you cross the river water alot and the terrain is huge riverstones and loose gravel. It's all very off road but worth it
Beautiful walk! The rock fairy left little painted rocks that you can look for all along the way up ? you can see much more of the pinnacles from the bottom so take the extra 15min off the loop, I almost didnt go ?
Well worth visiting. Did the loop track up through the bush first. Would recommend tramping sticks and boots if you have knee problems as some of the track is quite steep. Walked along the river (more like a shallow stream at the moment ) on the way back. The scenery was amazing.
Beautiful. We saw them from the bottom (riverbed) looking up and they were spectacular. Highly recommend the walk. Probably was 45mins up, 15mins to take pictures and about 35mins to walk back.
Absolutely beautiful! We went the loop track, first visited spot from movie Lord of the rings, and then to lookout point and after this we took the way around, where we had amazing view for lake and see. Later when we have finished the loop track, we saw sign about the way is closed, but it was possible. Took us 4,5 hours explore everything. Enjoyed a lot! :-)
Very nice ride! The trail is open.
