Beautiful beach and wonderful views of the straight. Incredibly friendly locals who towed us after we got stuck in the sand. Apparently DOC is trying to kick them out but our trip would have been ruined if not for them. Thank you to all who helped.

It was busy in the summer. We liked it hidden and private with each little camp area surrounded by Manuka trees. The campfire was the highlight. Toilet is a bit walk if camping in the bush. Cream and sea nearby. A bit of drive over the rough, stony road by the beach.

Road was to rough for us to get in in our Hiace. Need 4wd and plenty of ground clearance for the stream entry/ departure being steep. Plenty of places to camp by the beach on the way in though…

Parked on the shingle beach, across the road from DOC camp but still paid the fees. No one minded. Have a 22ft caravan . A few people in tents. Lots of site that we could have got into , but chose the Beach. Road not too difficult, a couple of shingle fords that were fine. Would definately come again, as an amazing view of the rugged Cook Strait & view of Lake Ferry township in the distance.

This is a great little camp with small sites set among a forest of manuka right on the beach. Not much room for a larger van, but I don't think you'd get across the fords and alluvial fans on the road in anyway. It's a mission getting here. Standard long drop dunnies, and the water isn't drinkable so bring your own.

Lovely spot which feels remote, not a great place for a large bus, small campers only!

Nice place to visit but only suitable for small vans or tents as all parking spots are among the trees with very little width or height available.

Great camping spot if your car can make it down the gravel 'road' I've managed it in a coralla in summer and late spring when the creeks are low and the kind locals have maintained the road with bulldozers. Otherwise I'd recommend a 4x4. Strong winds. Toilets not as bad as others make out. Typical long drops. Camp has water and a good table to eat under shelter. Boil the water.

NO WATER. WORST TOILETS EVER.

Did it mid of September with my 1993 Toyota Estima 4WD, and the third stream was quit big and really deep! But I managed! Was all alone on the campsite, just some local fishermen walking past in the morning, still one of the best experiences so far! Bring water! Windy at night! Also: see weather forecast before you go, so the fords don't get any bigger due to heavy rain and you get stuck at that campsite! ?
