YES it’s run down and not the cleanest place we stayed at BUT the staff was very friendly and the location for the alpine crossing is perfect. Takes just about 20 minutes to Ketetahi car park from where the track can be started. We stayed after the hike and appreciated a close campground, hot showers and the cute little animal park right next to us. Also two friendly peacocks roaming around!
Very friendly welcome. For the price of $50 for a camper with an electrical hookup, this campground is really outdated and run-down. A shame. At least we were allowed to fill the camper completely with water.
Very run down, needs lots of attention. The camp kitchen was very run-down We arrived late, maybe 5. Bins were full, bbqs weren't clean. Very outdated. Right on the highway.
Previous comments almost put me off coming here. I'm glad I decided to see for myself. The reception was warm and friendly, the park is tidy and the hot pools are hot and clean. They are mineral pools and don't have any chemicals so the pool isn't sparkling blue but it isn't slimy, it's clean. I came for a night and stayed 7.
Where to start? The rude owner, lack of respect, bad treatment, very dirty and in poor condition, lack of professionalism. I don't recommend it at all, very bad conditions, there are many better places nearby
Very friendly owner but overall aging. Very pleasant geothermal swimming pool after a big hike, but rustic. The entire structure lacks maintenance, some motorhome connections are out of order
Very rundown, lots of maintenance jobs need doing. You felt everything needed a good clean. Do not put young children in showers as the temperature is dangerous and will scauld easily. Whole area needs a refit. Wifi awful. Probably one of the worst sites weve visited. The owner is very nice but it really wasnt worth the money
Ok for a night stopover. We stayed for 2 nights (either side of doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing). Location was good for this as not many free places around. Bathrooms were very dirty and definitely were not cleaned at all in the whole time we were there. (Big clumps of hair and spilt shampoo in shower from the time we arrived till the time we left, so no cleaner had been.) Hot pools - the water seemed clean but the pools themselves seemed really dirty and rusty. Animals in the ‘animal park’ next to the sites were actually really noisy - the donkey and the peacock both woke us up! People in neighbouring house played loud music till 2am one night.
Nice little campground. The Woman at the reception is very welcoming. Kitchen and bathroom are okay. we very enjoyed the hotpool after a tff day and also the animals around 😀 ($25/person for a no power campsite 3/10/23)
Very friendly and helpful owners. Made us feel so welcome and we enjoyed our stay. Geo-thermal pools are rustic and lovely. All the facilities you could ever need just don’t expect the ritz
