An amazing place to visit, majestic ancient trees, interesting fungi, shy insects, abundant birdlife, a family of Tui following us the entire loop. Well signed, info box at the entrance, clean toilets. Also nice picnic tables, a very well maintained area, good carpark, well worth the visit, walk in silent respect.

Disappointed as when we arrived found dogs not permitted, pity it wasn't mentioned in details.

Beautiful lush walk, kept by the volunteers! Only a small drive off the main road (10min or less). Lots of very tall and beautiful trees-a impressive piece of Maori history. Also many native birds singing

Just beautiful! I was completely on my own walking the track early in the morning, birds are singing, the nature is stunning. Enjoy and connect with the forest.

Very nice little jungle, walk 30 minutes see more if you take the time for photos. We hear a lot of birds and exotic birds. 1 or 2 Weka of passage, I wanted to see the Kaka but they were not there. There are some Kekerū we see and hear because of their pronounced flapping of wings. I also saw the Magpie (black and white bird). Possible to see some of the birds indicated on the panel. The Burial Pūriri Tree is a tree apparently about 2000 years old. There is also in this area, a Kauri not as impressive but it is there. It's nice, if you go there do not miss it. There are 3 tracks, from shortest to longest. Little picnic air and toilet! ;-)

Really nice domain. A little bit out of the city but definitely worth the detour. If you like Latin names this will be your paradise! The big Rimu trees are quite a sight to behold and ... We saw a Weka !

Beautiful jungle forest! The ancient tree is pretty impressive. There’s a nice picnic area right inside and the bathroom is clean. Definitely worth the small detour. Note: road going in is quite narrow!

Amazing!!! Nice walk on a well-maintained path through a jungle! Tons of native birds, even saw a Weka :) Make sure you take the laminated tree guide from the front gate with you as you walk, trees of note are numbered on the path and you can learn a bit about them as you go! Coolest part was the 2,000 year old tree. It's a sacred Maori sight where the bones of the important/honored dead were ceremonially buried. Absolutely amazing, must see!

It's a big old gnarly tree.

This little piece of ancient bush is very special and a joy to wander through. Sealed road to entrance but drive in a bit narrow with overhanging trees.
