No phone signal, toilet is vile, only a few spaces. We turned up at 7pm and only 2 of us there.
Really lovely view of the hills and farmland. Very near the Okere Falls walk which is lovely and recommend to do. Toilets are a bit rank.
Great place if you get a spot like we did but 20 other campers here that don't give a shit about the rules.
Crap campsite. it’s just 5 car spots. It was a race to get the next spot after someone left. No view in the middle of no where. Few mins drive from the lake and rafting spot
6 fairly tight spots in car park by river, where the rafting trips end. Quiet after 5 when the trips finish. Spots filled up quite quickly as this is a decent spot near Rotorua. The river is fairly spectacular here and it's a good spot. Can't vouch for the toilets, didn't venture in.
A lovely Freedom camping spot. The composting toilet does have a typical odor but the inside is as clean as it could be. Trash cans full. We are noticing that lots of folks camp at these freedom camping sites with non-approved vehicles (NOT self-contained camper vans). Since being here several self-contained camper vans have been turned away because non-self contained (basically vans) are taking up spots. Not sure what to say about this. Folks are not abiding by the rules—
Pretty average! Toilet was gross didn’t use it, just went to a cafe the next day. Would recommend Okere falls cafe it’s great real good coffee and food. The spot was pretty, fun to walk around a bit and explore the falls. Good idea if you want to go white water rafting (biggest commercial drop in the world). But not at all worth going out of your way for. Not very good connection and you’re in the middle of nowhere.
There is no phone signal
The spot is located in the rafting departure parking lot. There are dry toilets but no water supply. There are barely four places to sleep. The river is right next to it, nice for a morning swim; that's the only advantage of this place. Basically, the spot is terrible, but it'll do since free campsites are rare around Rotorua.
Lovely spot and with a short walk you can watch the kayakers and rafters finish their exciting river trip down the rapids. Once these guys were done around 5pm it was very quiet and peaceful. Only room for 3 or 4 campers. Only amenity is a long drop toilet which was very clean and had hand sani(no water to wash) and, yes, it has an odor but ALL toilets of this type do. Overall highly recommended.
