Great spot. Quite a few campers there but still loads of space. Toilets were ok. Nothing special. Pretty cold at night.
Beautiful spot, lots of other campers around and no trouble. Didn’t use the toilets as we are self contained.
Very nice open field in a quiet bay. Plenty of space. The road to get there is bumpy.
We stayed in August, and there were a few other vans, but we had a beautiful spot, just 20m from the lake shore. There are a few trees to block the view… but they also shelter form the wind. Long stop toilets were clean and not smelly. Highly recommend… and a good place for a swim, and a long walk along the cliff top.
Great spot but choose your position wisely if wet westher
Nice quiet campground right next to the lake. Basically a large open field, can be difficult to find a flat spot, but enough space for 100+ vehicles. People were camping there that weren’t SC and DOC didn’t seem to mind. 1km grvael road coming in can be a bit bumpy with lots of potholes. Long drop toilets look brand new, but remember toilet paper as they didn’t have any when we were there.
I slept here for two nights, around two weeks ago. Beautiful place! There are some walks to do around. Well located. Nice sunset! Toilets could be better.
Very beautiful spot. Trees are covering the lake from most spots but it is very easy to walk to for good views.
This is a lovely place to camp. BUT PLEASE keep to the designated camping areas. DO NOT use other areas . and please use the toilet
Great free camp site, dog friendly, long drop toilets. Can stay up to 4 nights a month. Right on lake taupo, and if you are keen can take a dip in the frigid water. Lake water is fine to drink after a boil, and tastes better than local tap. For people needing solar, park near entrance to the open area, or in centre near the toilets for early morning sun in autumn, all the way to evening uninterrupted.
