One of the cheapest sites around, the free wifi works okay, zero service. The people living here long term seem okay, friendly enough. The surrounding walks are decent but can be quite muddy even on nice days so bring gumboots. Beach is heavy stone to get there. Watch out for the bees! There’s a lot of bees on nice days and they like to bumble around and annoy you- seem to be attracted to a lot. Kitchen good, toilets flush and spit water right on to the seat- female toilets, just gross
Nice campground came here from Ashburton less than a hr drive .Have to use a Penny card and App or Website to book it's $15; a person .Large campsites and Nice kitchen area .Free wifi .Showers are $2 using Penny card credit only .It's 15 mins walk along river to Beach and also a 1 hr walk in forest to north arm of river .Quiet campground I stayed 2 days
It was closed for the week but not indicated ! Drove there for nothing. 13.08.2025
There aren't many people at the campsite, and each site is spacious enough. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean. However, make sure not to stay here over the weekend—the nearby residential area starts blasting loud party music from the afternoon, and it still hasn’t stopped even now at 10 PM. I’m not even sure if I’ll be able to get a good night’s sleep tonight.
You need to buy a PENNY KEY In store to enter the campsite! Just to remind everyone cause they won’t tell you when you booked online🙂
Found it ver hard to book a site on Go Penny - took mean hour with many freezes and dropouts. Also couldn’t easily see a site layout to chose a place. Site is lovely and quiet, well maintained and nice facilities. Wifi was available but variable access to the internet.
This is a beautiful, quiet campsite right on the shoreline but very sheltered. As others have said, you need a Penny Key to access site & operate showers etc. Facilities include play park, toilets, showers, washing machine (2 x $2 coins), washing line, outdoor bbq, dump station, picnic benches... Kitchen has fridge, freezer, water boiler, cooker & cooking equipment, microwave, book swap... In summary, a quiet, pretty, well maintained campsite with amazing facilities in a stunning location!10/10
We have arrived at 9pm and couldn't check in, even though we have messaged the host. Come here early.
Love this place! Good for kids, boats and for those fishing enthusiasts. Penny operated system. They have tags at the main entrance below the sign for those aren't registered with Penny online. It's not very big so book in early.
You need to book your site online, purchase a penny card and create an account online before coming. There is a little shop 10 minutes away from the campground which sells those. Without the online booking you won't be able to access the campsite. Showers and dump station also work with the penny card.
