Kiwitags provided in a post box on the gate once you enter but you need to set up an account to use them which is straightforward. Pretty sparce facilities and dated, however it all seems to work more or less. Fine if you're desperate for a shower, but I'd probably give it a miss if you were looking for usual camp ground facilities.
Toilets soaked in water bit dingy
You need a KiwiCash Key Tag to use the campground. We even created a KiwiCash account, we could see that the booking fee is 15 dollars but could not proceed the booking worhout having a KiwiCash key tag. These are physical tags you need to buy before. Never needed this key tag the 28 days of camping in NZ before... So, in the end we decided to stay in the freedom camp area directly next to the campground.
Pleasant grassy domain kindly provided by Council with powered sites, plenty of flat sunny land. Clean toilets. Access to kitchen (working fridge woohoo) and showers is separate and is code controlled. Code is only available by calling HDC number as on door… during working hours only! Emergency after hours and local businesses do not have number any longer.
Love the last comment. Different to my experience. Sign on building says pay fee and phone council for entry code. Lovely lady procured code and on a Saturday afternoon to boot but alas door refuses to comply. Guess I will have to continue showering only when it rains. Beautiful spot though.
We are sort of hesitant to share our wonderful experience here as we don't want the word to get out. Quiet, clean and tidy, convenient.
Thank You Culverden ? We were more than happy with your Domain park.We found this place wonderful showers and Kitchen were clean. The washing machine was an added bonus. Culverden has a great little supermarket and bakeries and a wonderful Cafe that make fabulous coffee ?
Great place to stay and close to Hamner Springs! Super cheap, paid an affordable fee each per night for 6 of us to stay! We had to pay extra for the use of the kitchen, hot showers and washing machine which was worth it! There was no one else at the campsite so felt a little dodgy by ourselves but we were fine.
Arrived here 4pm on the Thursday before Labour Weekend. Initial thought was to stay at Hamner but very busy there, this was more our pace. Fabulous area, well off the road, and with clean flush toilets available. Previous comments about cleanliness possibly reflected overuse by many non self contained tourist vehicles. This is an outstanding camp. Kudos to the local community.
