Personally I didn’t like the stay. I stayed one night before Tongariro Alpine Crossing (a winter group tour starting at 7am next day), so it was very convenient, but the lodge looked like full of long-term people which made me feel uncomfortable in there. The receptionist was unfriendly, the building is quite old. The price was $25 and it was available for non-self contained cars.

Avoid parking near the railroad line at all costs. Although the parking lots are flatter there, freight trains with diesel locomotives stop for about 45 minutes at night on the single-track line and wait for oncoming traffic with the engine running. It was so loud that we had to change parking spaces at night. Otherwise clean and quiet.

Small lodge, campsite small but OK, backyard with lots of junk lying around, building clean, very old. Price for 2 people 50§ rather high

Cute little lodge with large fully equipped kitchen, clean toilets and showers. Rates for a camper are now $25 pp/night not 20 as it says on their website (-: recommend it !

We had an unpowered site for 2 night ( there are no powered sites or dump). Kitchen is okay, but old. Showers are really old but warm. We stayed for the Crossing. At night the train passes +/- 50 meters from the parking place.. Not sure if we would book it again. There is a free campsite nearby..

Good campsite with really great facilities, washers and dryers that work, big kitchen with lots of equipment and stations, warm dining area with a fire place, good bathrooms! And they have a shop and bar on the property. We came in last minute and they were so welcoming and helpful.

Nice campsite . Not so big . Kitchen very big and furnished. Dining area with a wood fireplace, perfect. Showers very nice.

Great spot. Cosy lounge area with woodburning stove. Great for rainy nights when you don't want to be in the Van. Also Netflix/You Tube on the TV. Powerful hot showers included in the price.

Lovely little spot for before and after the alpine crossing. Can organise shelter to pick you up and drop off from there and good price for kitchen, living room and hot showers included.

We spent two nights at the Alpine Lodge to do the famous Alpine Crossing Hiking. The second night is essential, because after 20km you are washed out! $/person/night sleeping in the car, reasonable price given the facilities (clean kitchen, large living room with sofas, wifi, dining tables…) Washing machine and dryer for $3 each The reception also does a small grocery store, so if you have a craving that's nice. For the Alpine Crossing, you can book the shuttle directly at reception, several slots available in the morning
