Nice easy a bit muddy loop after rain (from carpark through Te Araroa section to the Balancing Rock and back via Kings track).
Great views, nice spot
We couldn’t find the trail when we went. It was a very windy and overcast with an underwhelming view. On a sunny day I imagine it would be much nicer
Great walk. 40min loop have added photo of loop track for those who are confused. Also if you are afraid of sheep poo New Zealand isn't for you haha
Beware! Very confusing signage. They describe it as a loop walk that takes an hour but it would take far longer if you turn right at the end of the forest track..... The track from there on is also very overgrown and not maintained at all. We ended up turning around and walk back up through the forest again, which is quite steep.
BE CAREFUL! We got extremely lost and stranded by stupid sign posts, to the point where walking back would take us 3 hours and it was already getting dark, luckily our friends were in the area and could take us back - don't be silly like us and read posts carefully, and also turn back if the 'loop' doesn't take you back in 1/2 hour
The signage was a bit confusing... But we just did our own thing and took in the amazing views. Allow at least an hour as it’s a bit steep and you might not end up where you thought you would!! Good fun though.
If going down to balancing rock make sure you also go to one of the viewing platforms on way there or back, great views from there
Would not recommend this walk, there are much better around. It is muddy, full of sheep poo and not clearly signposted. Not worth the walk for the view you get.
Super hike over a hill forest, to end up on a nice beach ?
