Grass field on both sides of the road. Many places in the grass and rather flat. 1 single clean toilet but with a few insects. A 25 min from Invercargill. The road is quiet, it begins to have pass trucks around 7am but not ultra disturbing
A grassy field on the side of the road along the creek, surrounded by sheep. Level spots, would imagine it’s good for tents if that’s your route. One toilet on the larger side of the site. Road noise isn’t bad. Phone signals pretty poor but enough to send texts through and check the weather. No water or other amenities but it’s free and you can stay here multiple nights. Roughly 30 minutes from downtown invercargill.
Excellent spot, flat grassy area with plenty of space. The campsite is not very busy, mainly used by locals. Small composting toilet available. The proximity to the road is not a problem. Very good backup spot if there is too much wind on the coast or too many sandflies.
No more tree felling work. We were alone here and had a quiet night. On the other side there were a few cars and a caravan. So, free camping is perfectly fine.
Third place we tried in Invercargill, was fine until a solo man rocked up in his car and parked up. We didn’t feel safe so we left. Site is viewable from road, so that did not help. We prefer to be tucked away out of view from main roads. Can imagine it’s okay in summer with more people around. Disappointed. Long drop loo not in a great state.
Spacious, great for tents. One loo thank goodness, and it's fine! Stop complaining people! It's a long drop that always has loo roll AND hand sanitiser. I'd suggest parking on the gravel as it looks like a few people got stuck on the grass (it is by a riverbank and it's a wet climate here). You can go left after the bridge to 3 well groomed van spots or right to the grassy tent area. V.loud road in the day, v peaceful at night.
Very disgusting and small toilet with hundreds of dead flys and living flys. No running water only a small container collecting rainwater from the small toilet cabin rooftop. The road under the bridge is close by boulders. A few benches nothing more. Very bad phone signal. Only stay if absolutely necessary.
People, PLEASE close the lid of the long drop toilet. It’s not written in all the cabins for no reason! If you didn’t know: it reduces both the smell and the number of flies/mosquitoes. You can close the lid with toilet paper or your foot if you find it gross, OR simply disinfect your hands afterward or wash them in your car. Thank you!
Pleasant, peaceful site that spans both sides of the road. Yes, there is traffic on the road, but only during the day.
