Colac bay tavern and holiday camping ground has changed hands three times since mid 2024-2025. The colac bay tavern Is in the process of getting done up but as for the motor camp it will be getting subdivided into house lots. As for the main block one side has no power and the other side does. The kitchen and toilet shower blocks have no cleaner also take your own toilet paper with you as it's not supplied. As for the outside the grounds are left to over grow with grass.
Run away ! The worse campground I visited in 8 months in NZ. Expensive and old. I didn't feel safe.
Colac bay campground is one of the worst camps I've been to the bathrooms haven't been cleaned for a while same as the kitchen. There is mice dropping s on shelves also there's live wires visible in the kitchen.👎
The worst campground we‘ve stayed in NZ (3 month travelling) - especially the bathrooms were very dirty. It‘s cheap, but even not worth the price they take.
Poor, old and knackered facilities, perhaps a bit more dirty and messy than usual due to Xmas period ? Not very welcoming. Wouldn’t stay again.
Admittedly, some adjustments need to be made to make the place more welcoming, but the essential is there, for a reasonable price. for a pitch without electricity, with access to an equipped kitchen (microwave, hotplates, fridges...), unlimited showers with good flow, sofa area and laundry (not tested), small grocery store at the bar with some basic products , all close to the beach.
Place is rundown and in need of a clean. Paid for a powered site was expensive for the state of the facilities. Dirty dishes, flies and generally run down.
Not to bad a place for an overnight, rather expensive for family’s to stay as no discount for kids. Needs a massive renovation - was probably a great place to stay in the 90’s! The “permanent” residents need to be told to clean up the mess of cars and old boats that make the place an eyesore. Hopefully staying here doesn’t stop anyone from visiting the fantastic beach
