Sad to discover that Mt. Taranaki Summit hike is not wheel chair accessible ?

Amazing views and beautiful top. Very difficult hike on the 2nd half. Lots of steep hills with loose dirt and than followed by big rocks to climb over. Very worth it but it's a challenge even for fit people.

Look for a low wind day. Highly recommend starting before sunrise so you go up the scree part when it isn’t hot. Make sure to keep going straight once ski lift is reached (we made the mistake of losing the trail... And climbed 200 extra meters). Overall awesome day

Summit not closed... You just have to follow the track which continues from a small track at the beginning of the lift by the sky station. Then you can walk arounf and up the mountain. Anyway now you cannot go all the way up obviously because of too much snow etc.

23/05: Trek to the closed summit. However, it is possible to go to the Manganui Ski Station which is 30 minutes walk from the Stratford Plateau. The ascent of the summit is possible by another hike but NOT starting from this parking.

We did this climb on the 05/03 with brilliant weather, it’s a tough climb so make sure you have suitable clothing and that the conditions are favourable. Completely worth it for the views!

I did it on March 2 in clear skies, it was beautiful. The view is incredible The first part is an easy path to the refuge, then stairs and scree and finally a rocky part in scrambling. There was wind (50 to 100 km / h) and it made the climb more technical and the temperatures cooler. Still a little snow in the crater with a few steps of climbing rock-snow. 4h45 round trip from the car park Egmont North but note that I am in good physical condition these times, accustomed to trekking and practice mountaineering and climbing. In conclusion, it is superb, it is well worth the effort if you can do it but keep in mind that it is high mountain and that it requires the necessary equipment to optimize its chances of enjoying the moment!

As long as it’s cloudy, you are not going to see anything unless you get to the top of the Mount. But if it’s also windy do not go up: you just can not get on top and you are only losing time

Make sure you come down the enchanted track, going up it should be the brutal track hahaha
