A good spot for 1-2 nights. It's sheltered from the wind, but it can get cold at night at this altitude. You should arrive early to secure a spot. In the mornings, you have a direct view of Mount Taranaki at sunrise.

The toilets are spacious and not too dirty. There is no running water, but I boiled water from the sink in the toilet and used it for cooking. It's very quiet and not too windy. I felt a bit uneasy because there was no sign saying it was a free campsite, but I stayed there for one night. There was a restaurant and accommodation right in front of me, so I felt a little more at ease.

Good spot for one night. Sheltered from the wind. Not as uneven as further up. Public toilet mediocre.

We had some rough weather and it was less windy then at the top car park. Phone signal totally ok (Spark & OneNZ). Toilet pretty easy, don’t expect to much. Ok for a late stay.

My partner and I stayed here 2 nights in a row over Easter weekend and were somehow the only car parked here! There are bathrooms across the street and there is access to water (that needs to be boiled before consuming). There are a few trailheads near the Goblin Forest nearby and the car park is in full view of Mt. Taranaki. I recommend going to the Stratford Mountain House for a drink, as well. The staff is very welcoming. (:

We stayed here after leaving the plateau on a windy day. Nice and sheltered and coffee in the morning at the restaurant. Toilets are longdrop, but look a lot cleaner than the ones at the plateau

Stayed 3 nights here with no problem whatsoever. Loved waking up to beautiful views every morning and the toilets are clean and convenient (long drops). 2 of the 3 nights we were the only ones there but we always felt safe, cars were coming down the mountain after sunset and up a little before sunrise. There’s no markings or info in regards to where we can and cannot park so we just parked in the car park and had no issues. Perfect spot.

We were the only ones there, beautiful view of the mountain and very quiet. Good location with plenty of walking tracks.

Drove almost all the way there to find a big sign-no dogs, not even in your car. $10,000 fine. CamperMate should warn of that in their descriptions of all the National Park sites if it applies. Thanks
