Once you understand how to book, it's easy. Place is beautiful, are all alone, toilets ok! Even drinking water here!

After 30 minute phone call with a lovely person at Auckland City council, parks and recreation, she helped me make the booking and talked me through their website. The toilets were clean, the rangers dogs were very enthusiastic and the tuis were in full flight. Parked on flat area behind main building, unfortunately no view but peaceful. Only a walk away from the beach?

There're 2 SCC sites, 1 summer season & 1 winter, the latter being behind the HQ bldg, the former a gravelled area down on the flats near Blackberry Flat Camp. Check the ARP map (via link under 'Contact') for summer season location. No signage! Booking system a PITA & every ARP pax will tell you something different. Gen up before you call. Persevere. ? ~ Puriri Grove walk & Waharau Bush walk very worthwhile. The Park is a credit to the staff.

This is the parking lot behind the information center. Take the little road to the left hand side. There is no signage indicating you can camp there and no one on the phone at the reservation line has ANY clue where to find it. But this is it. Small quiet gravel parking lot next to cow pasture with water tap and clean bathrooms. As a note: Reservation system is absolutely miserable. Worst way to pay for a campsite of any I have experienced in NZ.

Nothing is indicated for the winter. Super clean toilet place and plenty of space then an open space available. Cool !

Excellent place to spend a couple of days - good walking tracks (short to long trips), quiet, lovely and a very pleasant place.

Beautiful area well maintained grounds. Not very clear on where you can park, astonished that it was deserted when the very average top 10 campground further down the road was full. The lack of people gave it an eerie feeling, couldn't help but think that it is a very under utilised resource maybe this is because the lack of clarity on the booking and payments (the same can be said for the other regional park campgrounds in the area).
