Absolutely great place to rest quietly. Showers etc a bit rustic but no doubt would be a welcoming site for anyone needing to use it. We had a powered site and views of the mountains. Hosts daughter was lovely as Mads couldn't make it. Midgies/sandflies did like the evening air but nothing repellent couldn't fix. Great place for a leisurely evening stroll. Very little road noise. We paid $45NZD for one night stay. Only 3 other campers in the park so worth every cent.

Staying at the pub is for sure an experience. Mads is a character & very welcoming, helpful etc as stated by all other reviews. However, as lovely as Mads is, the pub itself is in a terrible state due to damage & lack of maintenance. The kitchen is a bit of a shock & you cannot comfortably cook or eat in there due to mould, mess etc. That said the showers & toilet is kept clean & functional with unlimited warm water. I wouldn’t stay if you need to use the kitchen or expect a regular park

Old rustic hotel, overall was very good. Mads waited for me to arrive even when I was almost 1 hour late from arranged time. She even recommended places to visit along my trips. Toilet, bathroom and dining area is clean, but kitchen is a little messy. There isn't any wifi when arrive but Mads bought over her house broadband for us to use. Overall have a very positive experience.

Mads is such a nice person! She took very good care of us, would definitely stay there again :)

Only cash is accepted. Yes, the owner is very nice and helpful but the toilet is dirty and the building is very run down and messy. The shower was warm and clean though. I used the public toilet across the road next to the playground.

I can recommend as a solo female traveler. Seems little dodgy and abandoned at the first sight but there’s nothing to be worry about. Just give Mads (owner) the call (find number at the entrance). She’ll show you around. Unlimited hot shower, kitchen, flushing toilet. All little old school but will do the work. I prefer to pay for overnight stay to local than to DOC. Give it a chance, Mads is heartwarming person.

The best campsite. Mads is truly a genius. She helped us with everything, gave us advice, and genuinely cared about us. If you see her, send greetings from the guys from Uruguay.

Atypical place! Place in a simple parking lot of an abandoned country hotel. No amenities in the small village. Madeleine is available and kind. Nothing exceptional. Unlimited hot shower. $15 per person without electricity.

Make sure you stop here during your trip. For the price of a DOC campsite you'll find a great spot with hot shower and kitchen. Overall, Mads will give you the warmest welcome you can have. Recommend 100%.
