Flooding has gone back plenty to park without worry but would check weather before going as locals said it is prone to flooding in heavy rain. Really peaceful site with lovely clean toilets, bins and right at Te Kinga trail head. Great phone signal.

this spot was flooded as of 6 sep 2026... so proceed with caution if it rains constantly!

Very cute campground with a view on the mountains and the possibility to swim in the lake. 2 flushing toilets and a changing room (per women/men), cell service is okay and 10 spots to park. Arrive early as this spot is often taken by motorhomes of people who come here to fish :)

Allowed places are not so nice because only the first cars have a side view to the lake and there is not much space between the cars. A lot of space in the area where camping is prohibited. I moved to a different place.

Lovely spot by the lake with flush toilets. Limited FC spaces, be warned: if you park outside the designated spaces, the rangers / council routinely check the area and will fine you $400. Be gone by 6AM to avoid the council, and make sure to leave by 8AM to avoid a fine We arrived late to no spaces and woke at 6AM to the council arriving to check the area. He was could have fined us but he was nice and we were lucky he didn’t fine us. He told us to leave before 8AM. Good spot, but be mindful

Beautiful spot with a lake that you can swim in! The walk up Mt Te Kinga is also great fun. Camped for 2 nights. We arrived at 2pm and got the last available spot on a weekday. Sandflies absolutely lethal here - bitten all over despite being fully covered up and using all sorts of repellent. Phone signal was iffy but worked most of the time.

This is a very beautiful freedom campground which I can definitely recommend checking out. You have a beautiful view with the lake, the beach and the nature surrounding you. NOTE : You need to be there relatively early in the day, as the 10 Freedom campsites fill up very quickly. We were there at 2pm and there was only one spot left. And bring something to protect you from sandflies, as it is very humid here due to the nature and the lake, so there are lots of them.

Very beautiful place, got here on a rainy day, luckily there was a space as there is not that many of them. Got here around 13:00 with a lot of huge RVs on the spots. Had a great swim in the lake 🤙🏻. Toilets are pretty close and very clean with two bins for rubbish. Had a 2 lines of 4G, Spark is my provider and even VPN works fine here.
