Campground in Auckland, Auckland New Zealand
Waitawa CSC Parking area - From $21
Located 50km from central Auckland on our south-eastern coast, Waitawa is made up of three small peninsulas and fronts onto four bays and is a recreation park, planned and developed with outdoor activities, exercise and fun in mind. The site has extensive hardstands, a small communal building for gatherings, and access to walking tracks of the park. You will have the opportunity to park in areas that have extensive views across Tikapa Moana, the inner gulf and Waitawa Regional Park.Due to the narrow road, and minimal turnaround areas, campervans are not permitted down to Mataitai Bay.

Fantastic views. We were the only ones here for the night. Very peaceful.
The smile is for the lovely views, but the process to book was a nightmare, husband wanted to give up! Took over an hour with the system to book, then also had a problem with the locks at the gate as had 2 combinations given. Amazing views and a beautiful spot down on the beach, but camp site is up the top, so wouldn't suggest this site for people with mobility problems, as the walk from the beach to the site is a steady climb.
Amazing view of Hauraki gulf from parking spot. Nice walks but quite hilly. Be aware that motorhomes cannot proceed all the way down to the beach due to concern expressed by ranger on road construction and limited parking by the beach. Quite a walk downhill to beach. No water or toilets at motorhome parking. Ian S
Lovely spot. Didn’t stay the night and were put off by arrogant rude ranger. We missed a sign and parked for a cuppa where we should not have. Instead of pointing our error out to us he climbed into us and said “that’s the problem with you people” which suggests to me he has an issue with motorhomers in general
Nice spot!
Took a very long time to book and we were given 2 different gate codes. The chain is very heavy for a woman to handle so we were stuck at the gate for more than 20 minutes trying to get it open. Nice views once we were finally there.
Good view, but the place itself is not nice. Lengthy online booking process, for which you have to create an account. It's unclear whether it's possible to book after 8 pm or not. The access code is sent by email hidden in an attachment. There is also an outer gate that automatically closes from 9 pm to 7:30 am (summer), so you can't get in/out in that time.
Brilliant spot, all on our own tonight.
24/07 arrived 4.30ish, booked, noted code. Not unfamiliar w padlocks; tried everything, neither gate padlock opening. [Last time there, along w 2 other MHs, no access as Ranger had forgotten to change code!!! Cost/delays.] An hour alone (solo F) in gathering dusk>dark>cold; calls to Akld (they said the couldn't reach me - they have my #). Eventually spoke to Ranger who offered to come, but wd take 1/2 hr. Declined. Didn't stay on. Don't know outcome but strongly suspect code not up to date/changed - as/previous time. Very poor, ARP - very poor.
Price is now $20 per vehicle! You cannot pay on the intercom, you must use the internet system.
