Nice spot, there's quite a few homeless people living in their cars on the grass park and some are mentally unstable I had a guy show his gang patch to me, I wasn't sure if it was a threat but I moved to the other spot closer to the marina
Sad about just two night per calendar month when is not busy i can’t understand why we cant park there
Decent place. A few people sometimes who don't seem to be in a very good situation but who don't seem bad. The toilets are not too far away and clean most of the time. Like others, despite the planes and the train, we were not particularly disturbed in our several nights here. Recommended to come before 6 p.m. though, sometimes it can be a popular place with several camper vans.
The toilet is locked at night, but there is another one about a 15-minute walk away that is open 24 hours. Please note, it can be a bit noisy if you’re a light sleeper, as there are frequent trains and airplanes passing by But its free so! Haha
I spent one night there in the middle of March. Public toilets are close by and they were pretty much clean. The view and the sunset is beautiful and from those eight parking spots, there were only seven taken. It wasn’t too loud, even though you could definitely hear some boats sometimes. The SC parking lot is placed on a big parking lot and in the morning, the surrounding parking lot got crowded pretty early and pretty fast, but I didn’t mind it.
A super ugly place. It’s a parking lot in an industrial harbour.
Very annoying that some campers think they can occupy 2 spaces with their vehicle. Egoists!
Nice spot, noisy at night. Can pick up the free waikato university wifi from a modern laptop. 13.1mbps down, 6.42mbps up. Toilets close after sunset.
Nice big carpark by the water. Swimming and fishing is allowed. Only 8 spots available for SC vehicles though so better come in early. Easy bike to some shops. Public toilets are quite close enough, roughly 200-300m away, not the greatest but its ok, could be better also closed at around 7:30pm (based on experience) lol. Nice big grassy area for picnics and other activities. Recycling bins and rubbish bins available. Could get a bit noisy and busy with the freight trains operating and boat ramp users during the day but not too bad might be a problem if you're a light sleeper. Bonus is there's a new dump station just outside the car park that's so new, it doesn't exist on apps or google maps yet.
Definitely need to get in quick. A bit of noise but nonetheless a fine place to sleep.
