Beautiful place on the water. Very limited places. There was online “out before 9AM, arrival from 4PM”, so we arrived at 3:50PM. However, it was already very full (in the low season). We still got our bus somewhere in between, then there was another seat free. Then we saw several campers arrive, most went back, some were standing in an “illegal” place. garbage cans present, toilets spacious and clean

Peaceful lakeside spot

Good place, it has bathrooms open all night and area for cooking or washing dishes. Nearby is also Hamurana Springs

Very quiet, located a bit outside of Rotorua, but there are hardly any free campsites in the area. The situation is tough; first come, first served. Arriving late is not advisable; we arrived at 6:30 pm and there was only one spot left, even in the off-season. Toilets are clean and modern, and there's an outdoor cooking area with a sink. Space for approximately 10-12 vehicles. Mobile network coverage is unreliable but functional.

Free camp very quiet. I advise to arrive early to have a seat because as these are quite “rarely” on the Rotorua area, this can sometimes be complicated. Spacious and generally clean toilets. Avoid outside with cold water to wash dishes. Disposable garbage. View of the lake and its surrounding reliefs. Next to the watering the river is sublime. Walks along the lake.

Such a beautiful, peaceful spot by the lake, however it does fill up quick as there aren’t many spots! We came early and it filled by 3:30pm. If you are going to Mitai Maori Village at night, I recommend ubering to and from to not lose your spot. + The toilets are very clean!

So overcrowded, had to park on turned up mud, in the hopes we wouldn’t get stuck. All other spots taken early and not many of them, all parked so close together. My recommendation would be to stay completely out of town so it is quieter and more space. Doesn’t stink of egg though

We showed up pretty late and there weren’t spots between the signs. Some kind humans moved a bit so we could squeeze in. Bathroom was clean, albeit a few bugs. Overall a pleasant place to stay. Some folks ended up parking in the grass across from the designated parking spots.

Pretty little spot of you can get a view of the water. Obviously a nightmare in summer as people have said but in April it was lovely. No bugs just thousands of dead ones on every surface at the toilets haha Toilets were ok, a couple were pretty gross but one was nice. There is a little kitchen area under shelter with just surfaces and a sink but all covered in dead bugs and bird poo. Right across road from springs and a park further up with more toilets. Everyone just parked wherever

The sunset was really great. Everything else was rather naja. The parking spaces are located right on the street. Despite the enough garbage tanks available, not every camper thinks that their use is meaningful. At our parking lot were parts of a loop that still looked very fresh. The toilet system was very ugly. Some people also don't think it is necessary to rinse at all and clog the toilet. There is no clutch door.
