A wonderful drive, hike and view from the small mountain with stunning scenery even on a cloudy day. You should defenitly go even if you're not a lotr fan! About 1 hour drive from Mount Somers Village with 40 min of gravel road (a pretty good gravel road). From the car park its a 20 min walk on flat ground and then 20 min up the mountain.
Comments on the gravel road aren’t kidding, it’s a hard journey but definitely worth it, the most astonishing setting and all around you looks not only like the film but like the descriptions in the book. I think it’s the most immersive movie site I’ve visited. Would recommend a hat or scarf to put over your ears as it’s very very windy on the peak. Couldn’t find the plaque for the films though, maybe it blew away 😅
Very long gravel road but in the end we find a magnificent landscape and especially edoras that we recognize at first glance! One of my favorite LOTR filming locations
Road is open now. Gavel road is pretty bad at few points and there is one big ford. Be careful specially after rainy day
Road was unfortunately on December 14th. Closed due to flooding. Dishonor.
There are 24km gravel road, the 10km to Lake Clearwater are good passable but the rest is pretty bad: /
Simply gorgeous!
Best place in New Zealand, just amazingly beautiful area. Camped in the parking lot because we arrived late. But please only self-contained, take your trash with you. One must take care of this indescribably beautiful landscape!
Beautiful! But the gravel road is horrific with an old Campervan
What a beautiful valley surrounded by really beautiful mountains to do without hesitation !!!
