Spectacular view, but you have to live with standing like in a sardine can. Very many campers, sometimes parking is very inconsiderate. Especially on the upper level. Few areas where you can stand completely straight. In good weather you get breathtaking natural spectacles such as sunrises, on a clear sky at night a very beautiful starry sky and impressive sunsets.
Great view of the lake. Bring something to straighten the vehicle, ground very uneven. Toilets solid
Freedom with an insane view!
Such an amazing freedom camp spot. We arrived at 2pm to an empty lot. By the evening time there was around 60+ vans. As long as people are polite and park properly there is plenty of space for everyone! 4 drop toilets, all as clean as can be. Excellent place to have a dip in the lake!
Best campsite so far in terms of views. Was windy and rainy but the place is amazing. It’s quite crowded but we parked on top of the hill and there is more space ( a bit uneven). Honestly crazy this place is free. There are bathrooms by the entrance, quite far but does the job
Beautiful place w amazing sunrise. Better views at the top level Toilets are at the far end but not a problem with self-contained camping
Super busy, people packed in side by side. Toilets are a long way to walk. Hard to find a level site. The views are amazing though and I guess this is why it is so busy.
Spectacular free camping in front of Pukaki Lake with a stunning view on the mountains. We spent 2 days enjoying doing nothing and a quick swim in the lake (I was a bit scared that would be too cold but with a sunny day in the afternoon it is worth it!). Long drop toilets always clean, sometimes a bit smelly but you can do it :) I recommend arriving around lunch time to choose your spot. Love NZ ❤️
Magnificent free campsite on the shores of Lake Pukaki with a view of Mount Cook! Plenty of spots available for certified vehicles. The campsite fills up quite quickly despite everything. 4 dry toilets are located at the bottom of the parking lots, near the lake. The terrain can sometimes be sloped with quite a few rocks.
Biggest free camping spot that we’ve encountered. Lots and lots of space, 4 drop toilets and very nice views on the lake and mountains. About 45 mins from Mount Cook Village. The “uneven surface” really isn’t that problematic. It’s gravel and rocks so a couple holes but nothing bad. We would absolutely recommend!
