This is a camping ground worth a visit if you like an off the beaten track and secluded area. It’s in the small neighbourhood of Rangitata which is a fishing town. The pebble beach is across the road but there is no view of the beach from the camp ground, and it is also not swimmable. For us, it was an interesting place to drive through and see the coast and river mouth. We would not stay here overnight but it’s easily accessible and a fun detour. Great farm lands on the way.
I had very bad experience with this campsite. First of all, you have to drive 30 minutes off SH1 to get there. The campsite doesn’t even have its own toilets. You have to use the beach public toilet. That toilet is the dirtiest toilet I’ve seen during my one month traveling in NZ. 😩 The beach is not sandy beach. Only pebbles and rocks, very hard to walk on. The campground doesn’t have cell signals. I left the place after realizing that place was not worth my time to stay there.
This is the best campsite in the whole world! The guys are the friendliest and funniest people in the world. They baked us scones, gave us drinks, and were very hospitable. You can walk along the beach. There are trash cans and a toilet nearby. It doesn't cost much to stay there. We'll remember this evening forever.

My friend and I spent a night at the Ragitata south campground and it was a great experience. The facilities were nice and clean and Rosalie was the best hostess. I would totally recommend going here.
Really nice campsite with clean facilities. Hosts were brilliant & very welcoming. Couldn’t recommend this place enough.
Glenn & Rosalie were so accommodating. Helped us out on Christmas Eve night when our bank cards kept declining for no reason. Campsite was beautiful, close to the beach and facilities were very clean. Showers were great too. Thanks guys would highly recommend.
Really nice and quiet campground. Close to the beach and river mouth. Appr. 10 min walking. Glenn and Rosalie are so kind and lovely! They do have showers, coin operated (2$), and laundry. Really bad to no reception, but definitely worth it!
